Refrain: Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee, “How great Thou art, how great Thou art.” (repeat) And when through the woods, and forest glades I wander, and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; when I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur and see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze. (refrain) And when I think, that God’s own Son not sparing; sent him to die, I scarce can take it in; that on the Cross, my burden greatly bearing, he bled and died to bring me home again. (refrain) When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation, and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart. Then I shall bow, in humble adoration, and then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!" Listening for God Time with Young Hearts What does it mean to “Keep Trying”? When do you give up? When do you ask for help? Luke 11:1-10 He was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” So he said to them, “When you pray, say: Father, may your name be revered as holy. May your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us. And do not bring us to the time of trial.” And he said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, for a friend of mine has arrived, and I have nothing to set before him.’ And he answers from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already been locked, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything.’ I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything out of friendship, at least because of his persistence he will get up and give him whatever he needs. “So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. Sometimes I question and doubt the way Thomas did. But God’s not the kind who says don’t use your mind, so when questions trouble my soul, I trust in the promise that Jesus made to us all… Chorus: When we ask, seek knock we will receive from God! When we ask, seek knock, surely we’ll find! When we ask, seek knock, doors will swing open wide! So let us, ask, seek knock, all of our lives! 2. Sometimes when I’m feeling strong I promise things I can’t keep. Sometimes I let Jesus down the way Peter did. But God gives me grace to learn from my mistakes, and pick up the pieces again, and trust that the Savior is working good through it all! Hymn: “Hymn Be Now My Vision

Be now my vision, O God of my heart; nothing surpasses the love you impart - you my best thought, by day or by night, waking or sleeping, your presence my light.

Be now my wisdom, and be my true word; ever within me, my soul is assured; Mother and Father, you are both to me, now and forever, your child I will be.

Riches I need not, nor life’s empty praise, you, my inheritance, now and always. You and you only are first in my heart, great God, my treasure, may we never part.

Sovereign of Heaven, my victory won, may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of All.

Time with Young Hearts

NRSV

Gospel Luke 10:38-42 Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her."

Hymn: “Hymn: “ Amazing Grace”

Public Domain

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found, was blind but now I see

T’was grace that taught my heart to fear and grace, my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed

Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come ‘tis grace that brought me safe thus far and grace will lead me home

My God has promised good to me, whose word my hope secures; God will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we’d first begun.

Passing of Peace and Welcoming the Light of Christ:

Invocation Prayer

Pastor: Gracious and Loving God, we thank you for being love, and for creating each one of us with the capacity to give love and to receive love. We see your joyous creative activity throughout the universe, and we know that we are part of your creation. We gather in your presence now to celebrate the special love that lives in the hearts of Charlie and Wayne. Let you Spirit be known among us, that the promises made here may bind their hearts and be a sign of your love in this place and in our world. Amen

Hymn: Blessed Assurance

1 Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of his Spirit, washed in his love.

Refrain: This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long. This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.

2 Perfect submission, perfect delight, visions of rapture now burst on my sight. Angels descending bring from above echoes of mercy, whispers of love. [Refrain]

3 Perfect submission, all is at rest. I in my Savior am happy and bless’d, watching and waiting, looking above, filled with God’s goodness, lost in Christ’s love. [Refrain]

Family/Community Affirmation

Pastor Who stands with these two men in acceptance of who they are, what they mean to each other, and their marriage?

(Friends and Family) We do.

Pastor And who will stand with Charlie and Wayne to support them as they continue to grow in their relationship?

(Family and Friends) We will.

First Reading: 1 Corinthians 13

Love is patient and kind: love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful’ it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hope all things, endures all things. Now abide these three: faith, hope and love; but the greatest of these is love.

Candle Ceremony Reading: Ruth 1: 16-18

And Ruth said, “Entreat me not to leave you, or to return from following after you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die and there will I be buried. May the Lord do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts me from you.” And when Naomi saw that she was determined to go with her, she said no more.

Sharing Holy Communion

Pastor: Friends in Christ, as we celebrate the Wedding of Charlie Salt and Wayne Shull, we remember the Wedding in Cana and the first miracle of Jesus. So, it is good and right that the first meal that Charlie and Wayne share is our Lord’s Supper.

Charlie and Wayne: We gather at our many tables mindful of the presence of God’s Spirit that is here with us. We seek to honor the request of Jesus given in the scripture. Of all the teachings Jesus gave to our ancestors, this he asked them and us to remember him.

When Jesus and his friends sat together at a Passover meal, Jesus took bread; giving God thanks and praise, he broke the bread. He gave it to his friends saying, “Take this all of you and eat of it. This is my body that is broken for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

After the meal had ended, Jesus poured out the cup and again he gave God thanks and praise. He gave the cup to his friends and said, “Take this all of you and drink from it. This is the cup of the new covenant. Do this as often as you drink of it in remembrance of me.”

Let us pray.

All: Come, Holy Spirit come. Bless this bread and this cup and all who have gathered in your Spirit. Help us to remember that you have dwelt among us. Help us to dwell in the world today as living temples of your presence. Bless us to remember your teachings, commandments, and example. May we be renewed in this sharing. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

All: We thank you, God, for your presence as we remember the Living Jesus. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, you are among us still, in each of us, and in all of your creation. Bless us to more fully live as your people. Amen.

(Charlie and Wayne) Join us at our little Patch of Heaven following this time of worship…
